Jason’s appreciation for poetry, love, pleasure, and beauty naturally created a path toward becoming an officiant with Journeys of the Heart. Growing up in the region, and as part of a family that owned and operated an oyster house for over a hundred years in south Philadelphia, he brings an innate understanding of tradition to his work. Along with a romantic’s heart and his passion for poetry, officiating weddings is the perfect role for him.
Jason is happiest when bringing people together, which he does regularly as the organizer of a long-running poetry reading series in center city Philadelphia. This passion for connection extends to his role as a professor of literature and composition at several local institutions, including Temple University and the Community College of Philadelphia. He loves teaching and helping others discover the joys of reading and writing, and has published his own poetry widely.
A well-seasoned traveler, Jason has spent nearly two years of his life abroad, including studying in Florence, Italy, and living and working in Sicily. One particularly adventurous journey took him around the globe, experiences that have enriched his understanding of different cultures and traditions—knowledge he draws upon when creating meaningful ceremonies for couples from diverse backgrounds.
Jason holds a Master’s degree from the University of Maine and is also a graduate of Rutgers University. He is married to Marta, a social worker specializing in early intervention, and together they have two wonderful children, Athena and Julian. His own experience with love, partnership, and family life brings authenticity and warmth to the ceremonies he creates.
Whether crafting verses or wedding vows, Jason understands that the most beautiful moments in life deserve to be honored with care, creativity, and genuine celebration. He is honored to help couples mark the beginning of their married journey with ceremonies that reflect their unique love story.
