Urbane Peachey
Urbane Peachey
Urbane Peachey: Lancaster, Harrisburg, York, Berks, Chester, Delaware and Montgomery counties in Pennsylvania and northern Delaware.Urbane (pronounced “Urban”) has been an Officiant with Journeys of the Heart for nine years. He delights in the unique love story of each couple--whether the unexpected meeting in a classroom or the very intentional discovery on match.com! He intends to help design a ceremony that flows from the meaning a couple finds in their relationship. He adapts readily to a variety of expectations whether the ceremony is religious, spiritual or secular, informal or traditional. Urbane recognizes and values the importance of ritual in celebrating life’s passages. He is quite skilled in weaving the meaning a couple finds in their relationship into the ceremony. Couples find Urbane to be professional, warm and kind with a most delightful sense of humor.
Urbane received a master’s degree in international affairs from the University of Pittsburgh. In his first career he worked overseas as a manager of rural development projects. This experience translates into appreciation for richness of different cultures and family traditions as well as for inter-ethnic and interfaith ceremonies. In his second career he was a minister and counselor with master’s degrees from both Lancaster Theological and Princeton Theological Seminaries. He was recognized by the American Association of Pastoral Counselors as a Pastoral Care Specialist. Presently he serves as President of Lancaster Interchurch Peace Witness, www.lancasterinterchurchpeacewitness.
A recent highlight of Urbane and his wife, Gwen’s life involved an exciting and fascinating 6-week tour of the Canadian Rockies visiting many of the places where they had spent their honeymoon quite a few years ago. Gwen is Canadian. Together they drove over 8000 miles and explored the beautiful and mountainous heart of our northern neighbor. In 2011, Urbane embarked upon a two week, historical archeological pilgrimage in Turkey walking through 15 ancient Roman cities. The pilgrimage was led by a Turkish archeologist and two eminently known American biblical scholars, John Dominic Crossan and Marcus Borg.
Urbane is a wonderfully talented singer and for the past 16 years he and Gwen have been singing major choral works each summer with the Berkshire Choral Festival, in Massachusetts. As an extension of that festival, they participated in programs in Canterbury, England and Salzburg, Austria.
Urbane holds the distinction of clocking more miles traveling to weddings that any other Journeys officiant. He enjoys the urban sprawl of southeastern Pennsylvania and finds much pleasure in officiating at some of the historic and scenic wedding venues in the region.
