Other Ceremonies & Life Passage Celebrations

Life is simply full of ritual opportunities!  Here are just a few that we have created

Adolescent Girl’s Coming of Age:  This is a simple, fun ritual, usually for girls around 12 years old, that includes mom, “girlfriends”, aunts and other female friends and neighbors gather to celebrate the special joys of becoming a woman.

Sweet Sixteen:  In another generation, young women were “presented” to society at around age 16.  That was a way of telling the world they’re would soon be ready for marriage.  Well, that no longer being the case, age 16 is a sweet age for a young woman and an important time in her development.  Female friends and family members gather in a joyful, playful time to celebrate this time of her life.

Wedding Shower:  Journeys of the Heart encourages all brides to be conscious of every aspect of wedding planning.  The wedding shower is an opportunity for women to gather around the bride in joy and affection.  The shower can be much more than gifts and eating cake (fun though that clearly is).  It can be about telling stories and the sharing of hopes and dreams among the participants.

Baby Shower:  There is simply nothing more meaningful in the life of a woman than the impending birth of a child.

The baby shower can provide a joy-filled experience of women supporting one another.  Together those gathered can ritualize the creation of a simple gift that the mother-to-be can keep with her during the process of delivery or adoption of a child.

Menopause:  A profoundly important time in the life of a woman.  Whether or not she is a mother, this is a hugely life-altering time.  It is a time for the female “village” to tell stories about what has gone before and plan for the times ahead.  Menopause is a hugely empowering time in the life of women.  We celebrate that.

Blessing and Anointing in Sickness: Most religious traditions provide ritual to bless and honor the body of a person during serious illness or prior to major surgery.  Our ritual is adapted according to the specific beliefs of the individual.  It need not be religious in any traditional way whatsoever, but simply a time to honor the body that holds the spirit of the person who is sick.

Healing From Violence: Victims of violence sometimes feel like they have no alternative but to just “forget about it.”  Yet simply forgetting is impossible to do.  The trauma of violence results in grief, often shame and profound sorrow.  We can walk with the victim through a healing ritual which she/he can help create, that is designed to begin a process of healing emotional scars.

Home Blessing: Few things bring deeper satisfaction that knowing we are at home!  “Home” need not be a traditional house.  It can be an apartment or condo, any place that is created to feel like one’s own safe place.  The Home Blessing is an “exorcism” of sorts.  While that word has all sorts of scary connotations, the purpose of a Home Blessing is to cleanse the space of any negative energy and invite love, kindness and compassion into each room.

Animal Funeral: Anyone who has lost a pet knows the profound sorrow that accompanies that loss.  Yet, in our culture, as much as we love our pets, there really is not time to stop and honor the loss of a pet.  Whether a burial of a body, ashes or the scattering of ashes, we can create a sweet and tender time for the family bid adieu to a beloved animal companion.

Memorial Service: Sometimes a memorial service is the best option to honor the life of a loved one.  One advantage to a memorial service is that it can be arranged after a little or a long time has passed after the death.  A Memorial Service can include the burial or scattering of cremated remains.  Or it can just be a time to gather and reflect together.

Renewal of Vows: Are you celebrating a milestone anniversary?  It can be 5, 10, 25, 50 or any year in between.  Let Journeys of the Heart help you create the ceremony that captures the love that has endured, while remembering the romance that kindled it.

Ring Dedication: Are you planning to legally marry elsewhere yet wish to celebrate your wedding in the midst of family and friends?  A Ring Dedication ceremony can be just the thing.  Rather than focus on the vows as the centerpiece of the ceremony, vows are restated here, but the blessing and exchanging of rings is the highlight of the ceremony.

“It has been close to three years since we were married. I want to reach back and extend our thanks and appreciation for being part of our day and truly making it unique. When we think back to our day, our vows, our ceremony - our hearts are still warmed by its one-of-a-kind essence. Our wedding day was unforgettable.”
