Marguerite Sexton
Marguerite Sexton: Founder--Greater Philadelphia Region Marguerite founded Journeys of the Heart in 1995, incorporating it in 1996. Since then she has presided at many hundreds of ceremonies throughout the entire Delaware Valley, nurturing the ministry’s growth through the years from two officiants in the beginning (herself and Laura Ford) to the current almost two dozen. Marguerite personally oversees the training of all new officiants and wishes to remain accessible not just to them but to all clients served by Journeys of the Heart. She founded Journeys of the Heart based on a strong belief in the value of loving commitments and a desire to provide meaningful ceremonies to mark critically important milestones in people’s lives. She strongly values equality for all, and believes that each person is a unique gift to the world. As the full-time Executive Director, Marguerite’s ceremony schedule is necessarily limited. She is, however, available for ceremonies upon special request.
She enjoys good books and movie/dinner dates with her spouse, partner and best friend, Tom.
Dear Marguerite,Thank you for the wonderful day that you created for us. All of our friends and family have commented on how beautiful and personal the ceremony was. Even with the lack of cooperation from Mother Nature, the day was perfect and one that we will never forget. Love, - Mark and George ![]() |
Marguerite and Tom are avid Phillies fans and are volunteers at Camp Erin, http://www.moyerfoundation.org/programs/CampErin.aspx a weekend grief camp for kids who have suffered the loss of a loved one. Camp Erin is a project of Phillies pitcher Jamie Moyer and his wife, Karen. Marguerite believes she has the ability to be uniquely present to children who have suffered loss, since both her own parents died during her childhood. They are also on the Board of Directors of Philadelphia Young Artists (PYA) http://www.philadelphiayoungartists.org a non-profit founded by Marguerite’s son, Joe Malachi. PYA provides an after-school music program for city teens whose schools have cut music from the curriculum.
Marguerite,We cannot thank you enough for all of the time, energy and spirit you put into preparing and officiating our wedding ceremony. It was beautiful, unique and sincere. We could not have asked for anything more and will remember those special moments that you helped us make possible for decades to come. With enormous respect and warmest regards, - Gwen and Billy ![]() |
Marguerite belongs to a “breakfast club” a group of four women who have been meeting weekly for more than 25 years. These cherished friends happily believe that their weekly breakfasts have saved them all thousands of dollars in therapy.
Marguerite finds great pleasure in reading and begins each day with a cup of tea and The Philadelphia Inquirer. She has been following the CBS soap opera The Young and the Restless for many years and is amazed that it sometimes still actually makes her cry. She loves Oprah and enjoys Chris Matthews, Jon Stewart and Rachel Maddow. The T.V. dramas Men of a Certain Age, Big Love, Nurse Jackie and The Good Wife are among her favorites.
Marguerite is not afraid to express her opinion, yet is open to the opinions of others and is willing to admit when she’s wrong. A proud feminist, she is deeply spiritual, but also has an excellent (and sometimes irreverent) sense of humor. She studies meditation and practices daily. She found Eckhart Tolle’s book A New Earth to be life-altering and will never remove it from her Kindle, as she frequently re-reads favorite passages.
Essentially, Marguerite laughs easily and loves deeply.
